black poetry vs. other poetry

On my quest to learn more about what I do, poetry, flow or whatever you wanna call it, I have some questions? Is there a difference between black poetry and lets say white poetry? Is black poetry its own genre, and if it is should it be? Do we black people bring a different funk to poetry? Or is my writing, and others who write like me, even poetry?

Favorites: Music and poetry

I'm looking for your favorite poets. I love writing poetry, but I must admit I haven't read poetry, other than people's blogs or in poetry groups, since I was forced to read it in High School and college. So when I was asked, "Who is your favorite poet", I was a little embarrassed when I couldn't come up with one. I started to just say Maya Angelou, but I didn't want to get caught in any lies when I was asked which poem I liked the best or to recite a line or two. So I said, "Jill Scott". What? She's a poet. But let me know about your favorite famous and infamous poets, so that I too may find my own favorite poet.

Also, I'm looking for some good love music to add to my play list; something to read to. I got a few of my favorites on there, but I want the readers to have something on there they can read to. So let me know.

One more thing, is it true that when it comes to poetry, our generation, can't get pass the hood life? That we equate poetry to rap? Which leads me to another question, is rap poetry?

A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS.

Never too tired

Went to work and slaved all day
Man I can't wait to get home
plop on the couch
and just lay

Traffic was horrible on my way
late picking up the kids
they added another fee
for the delay

Man, I can afford to pay

Husband working late again
so my rest time can't begin
until I get finished
cooking din

"Mom, I don't like that
Mom, I don't like this"
dinner is not gonna be
as easy as I wished

9:00 daddy still not home,
so bath time is on me
and bath time is not easy
when its one to three

I have to fuss at the big one
help the middle one
then chase after the little one

Man, I just want this day to be done.

10:00 husband finally gets home
with weariness in his eyes,
but happiness in his voice
pats me on the butt
and tells me I'll always be
his number one choice

Because of the way I hold things down
Because of the way I seem to never frown
Because of the way I step up when he can't
Because of the way I think

I couldn't respond
I was too tired and blank

11:00 I finally plopped in the bed
with thoughts of a good nights rest
in my head
But my husband wanted something else
instead

I looked in his sexy brown eyes,
then said,
" I only have an ounce of energy
but you best believe you can have all that's
left in me."

I'M NEVER TOO TIRED TO GIVE MY HUSBAND THAT!

Obama Mama

A black working mama
that supports Barak Obama
not a traditional voter
But her male image
stands before her
A good man
A just man
A strong man
and she had to change her plans
had to get on a ball
and get involved
Had to stand for something
So that maybe now she could have something
So that her kids can grow up to be something
something she never had a chance to be
So that her dreams can be
tangible
achievable
believable
Obama Mama knows its time for a change
and she feels Barak Obama can do the damn thang!

I am an Obama Mama

Go Barak!!!!!
